2005 COLORADO SPRINGS TOUR

Friends-
We haven't disappeared; we're just keeping a little lower
profile these days. This past weekend we enjoyed some Rocky Mountain
hospitality when we traveled to Colorado Springs for three concerts. This
was our first trip back there since 1996. You can see the pictures from the
trip here: 2005
Colorado Springs Trip
As you know we have kind of a "designated lead singer" thing going on in
CRQ. Since Don left last September as a regular member, we've used three
different guys to sing lead, depending on who was available and where we
were going. Eric Baesel flew up from Dallas for this trip and arrived at the
airport just a couple of minutes after we did. The great thing about all
three of these guys (Eric, Don & Tom) is that they work so well with the
other three of us, we can get up and do a concert even if we haven't seen
each other for months, and not miss a thing. It's a real luxury to have so
many good guys available.
After arriving at the Colorado Springs
airport, we drove 57 miles up into the mountains west of town to the home of
Georgia Jacobs, Greg's sister. She has a lovely home on a hillside in Lake
George, CO with breathtaking views of the Rocky Mountains and Pike's Peak.
Georgia and Greg's mom Gloria, who also lives on the same property, fixed us
a wonderful lunch and we enjoyed a couple of hours of rest before the first
concert.
Saturday night we sang at Lake George Bible Church, a beautiful
split-log church on the edge of town. Folks came from the surrounding area
for the concert and we had a fun time with them. After church they had a
cake and ice cream social, and even had "CRQ In Concert" on one of the
cakes.
Sunday morning we awoke early to head to The Springs Nazarene
Church in Colorado Springs. On our way to the church we were treated to the
site of dozens of hot-air balloons that were lifting off as part of a Labor
Day weekend balloon festival. They were everywhere.
We sang in both
morning services at The Springs in their new building, which includes, much
to the joy of Mernie and Eric, a coffee shop in the lobby. Our thanks to the
good folks at The Springs who welcomed us so warmly (now if they can just put an
In-And-Out Burger in there we won't have any reason to go home at
all).
Sunday night we were at Eastborough Nazarene, just a few miles from
The Springs. Again, we had a nice turnout of enthusiastic folks who
encouraged us and made for a very fun evening. We left Colorado Springs
reluctantly on Monday for the flights home.
Our upcoming schedule
will probably include a couple more out-of-California trips. We're working
on a trip to the Pittsburgh area in November, and of course, will be
returning to Rockport, TX in January.
On a more serious note, I hope all
of you have had a chance to contribute to the hurricane relief efforts. If
not, you can go to Rick's blog (HolyCoast.com) and if you
scroll down on the right side of the page you'll see a list of links to
various relief agencies.
God bless!
